Lower-emission freight transportation: The potential of LNG in Mexico

With up to 49% fewer CO₂ emissions per liter of fuel burned, LNG represents a viable solution for companies seeking to reduce their environmental footprint without compromising efficiency.

Mexico City, July 3, 2025.- Given the growing need for cleaner and more efficient energy solutions, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is positioning itself as a viable fuel alternative for freight transportation in Mexico. Compared with more conventional fuels, using it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 49% per liter burned. 1

“At SAC Transportes, we are convinced that innovation and environmental commitment can go hand in hand. That is why we are committed to LNG as a central part of our strategy for cleaner, safer, and more efficient mobility”

Currently, 50% of the Mexican company’s fleet already runs on natural gas, allowing SAC Transportes to offer solutions with a lower environmental impact. This transition not only strengthens the environmental commitment of the businesses involved, but also brings them closer to their sustainability goals.

“We understand that each operation has its own needs and times of implementation. That's why our experience with LNG is geared toward facilitating a gradual and functional adoption of more sustainable logistics and transportation solutions, tailored to companies of different sizes and sectors,”

According to the National Inventory of Greenhouse Gas and Compound Emissions (INEGyCEI), in 2021 transportation was responsible for approximately 20.5% of total greenhouse gas emissions in Mexico, sreinforcing the need to migrate to cleaner sources.

In this regard, the adoption of LNG in industries such as transportation not only contributes to cleaner operations. It also provides an opportunity to strengthen the efficiency, safety, and competitiveness of the sector through solutions that respond to current needs and the implementation of available technologies.
